Neighborhood M.A.P. Program

Neighborhood M.A.P, (More Active People), is a program of the Center for Aging and Healthcare in WV, (CAH), in collaboration with 10 community partners, 7 local funding partners, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  Neighborhood M.A.P was established in 2005, and is a project that promotes awareness of healthier living through increased physical activity, and healthier eating.  The program also seeks to empower low income neighborhoods by making improvements to provide healthier living opportunities.

There are three neighborhoods that participate in the M.A.P Program;  the Jefferson, Fairplains, and Franklin School Neighborhoods.  Within these communities the M.A.P Program has conducted:

Neighborhood M.A.P Walkability Studies to determine walking conditions, and what changes can be made to make these neighborhoods more walker friendly.

Neighborhood M.A.P School: Fit & Fun is held at each elementary school to encourage students, teachers, and families to be more active and eat healthier foods.

Neighborhood M.A.P Workplace Wellness is a wellness program for small employers and their employees to promote wellness in the workplace.

Neighborhood M.A.P Community Walking Program distributes walking route maps, pedometers, and tracking forms to groups and individuals who want to increase physical activity through regular walking in their neighborhood.
